Thigh Lift vs. Thigh Liposuction: Which Is Right for Me? By Dr. Suzanne Yee on June 14, 2016

Woman pinching the skin of her thighsPutting on a pair of shorts or a short skirt can be discouraging when the thighs are not as slim and toned as a person may want. Unfortunately, despite a person’s efforts regarding diet and exercise, the thighs are naturally inclined to hold onto excess fat deposits. When nutrition and physical activity fail to produce the results a person desires, body contouring treatments to sculpt the figure can help. Dr. Suzanne Yee offers thigh lift and thigh liposuction at her cosmetic surgery practice. While each of these procedures can enhance the appearance of the thighs, their applications differ. Dr. Yee is happy to discuss a thigh lift vs. thigh liposuction with her Little Rock, AR patients to help them determine which is most appropriate for their specific needs and desires.

Thigh Liposuction

Liposuction is a cosmetic treatment that specifically targets fat. However, patients should not confuse this with a weight loss treatment. Liposuction is not meant to remove large volumes of fat. Rather, liposuction treats localized deposits of fat that have collected around problem areas on the body, such as the thighs. During a liposuction procedure, these fat deposits are broken up, and then suctioned from the body through a long, thin surgical tool called a cannula. By eliminating these stubborn fat deposits from the body for good, patients can slim down trouble spots and improve body contours. Liposuction for the thighs may be an ideal procedure for patients who have been unable to tone the thighs through diet and exercise alone, and those who still retain good skin elasticity. Skin elasticity is important because it allows the skin to conform to the body’s new contours so that the patient can achieve optimal treatment results.

Thigh Lift

Like liposuction, a thigh lift addresses excess fat to tone the thighs. However, the primary difference between thigh liposuction and a thigh lift is that a thigh lift also eliminates excess skin. This makes a thigh lift an ideal procedure for patients with loose, saggy skin. Excess skin is often a problem for older patients who no longer retain good skin elasticity, or those patients who have recently lost a significant amount of weight.

A thigh lift is typically performed as an outpatient procedure, with the patient under the effects of general anesthesia. During this procedure, Dr. Yee will make an incision along the inner side of each thigh. The length of the incision will be dependent on the extent of alterations that will be made during surgery. No matter how long the incision may be, Dr. Yee will do her best to place it in a discreet position that can be easily hidden beneath shorts or a skirt. Once an incision has been made, Dr. Yee will remove excess fat and tissues so that the skin of the thighs can be re-draped, and the incision closed. After recovery from thigh lift surgery, patients will benefit from thighs that are smaller in size and more firm and toned in appearance.
