BOTOX® Cosmetic
BOTOX® Cosmetic is one of the most well-known injectables. BOTOX® dramatically reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by targeting the muscles that are largely responsible for creases. The primary ingredient of BOTOX® Cosmetic is botulinum toxin type A. In small doses, this toxin serves to temporarily paralyze targeted muscles, which can reduce or eliminate the facial contractions that cause lines and wrinkles.
- What to expect during treatment: BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment is personalized to the unique needs of each patient. During the procedure, Dr. Yee will make a series of injections on the face. These injections are carefully placed to address the specific concerns of each patient. Although treatment varies for each patient, a BOTOX® Cosmetic procedure is typically fast and virtually pain-free. Most sessions are complete in a matter of minutes, and patients require nothing more than a topical anesthetic to remain comfortable throughout the procedure.
- Typical BOTOX® Cosmetic results: Results from BOTOX® Cosmetic will develop gradually. Most patients notice a visible difference in the appearance of facial wrinkles within three to four days after treatment. However, it usually takes about two weeks for final results to be achieved. Once treatment has taken effect, patients will notice that the facial skin looks softer and smoother. These results may last anywhere from three to six months before follow-up treatment is needed.
Dysport®
Dysport® is very similar to BOTOX® Cosmetic. Dysport® is also made up of botulinum toxin type A, which relaxes facial muscles to reduce contractions and improve the appearance of facial wrinkles such as crow’s feet and frown lines. Dysport® is a safe and effective cosmetic injectable that involves virtually no discomfort and requires no downtime for recovery.
- What to expect during treatment: During Dysport® treatment, Dr. Yee will make a series of five injections. These injections are placed at specific points above and between the eyebrows to optimize the results of treatment. The injections are not painful; most patients describe them as feeling like a small pinch. In a matter of minutes, treatment is complete and the patient is free to resume their usual activities.
- Typical Dysport® results: Dysport® results usually take effect within a few days after treatment. Patients will notice that the skin on the forehead looks smoother and that their overall appearance is more youthful and refreshed. Although Dysport® paralyzes the muscles responsible for lines and wrinkles, Dr. Yee takes great care to ensure that natural expressions and facial movements are not affected. On average, the results of Dysport® last four months. Treatment can be repeated as results begin to fade.
Which is Right for Me?
Dysport® and BOTOX® Cosmetic are two very similar products. Both target fine lines and wrinkles to provide patients with a happier and more refreshed appearance. One small difference is that the Dysport® solution tends to spread more than BOTOX® Cosmetic, so it may be a better option for patients who are looking to treat a larger area.
