Arm Lift

Sagging skin and excess fat on your upper arms can limit your clothing options and make you feel embarrassed.

An arm lift can remove this excess skin and fat to give your arms a more toned and athletic appearance.

Dr. Suzanne Yee can use liposuction and advanced techniques to sculpt beautiful arms for patients throughout Little Rock, AR, and beyond.

What Is an Arm Lift?

An arm lift, also known as brachioplasty, is a body contouring technique in which the excess skin and fat of the upper arms are removed, the underlying muscles are tightened, and the arms are sculpted into a more toned appearance.

Patients can benefit from this procedure if the skin on their upper arms sags because of genetic factors, weight loss, or elasticity loss due to the natural aging process.

"When I first had this surgery, I thought I would be in a lot of pain . That was not the case. Hardly any pain. For about 4-6 weeks I just sat around and did no chain sawing or brush cutting. After healing I have been able to go back to Chainsawing. I will be 80 in May of this year. If any lady does not like the upper arm flab I strongly recommend this surgery. I am so pleased with my results, in fact every body I know has seen my arms. I am so proud of them and Dr Yee who did the surgery." Janet Brown, 5-Star Review

Your Arm Lift Consultation Exploring Your Candidacy for This Plastic Surgery

During your consultation with Dr. Yee in Little Rock, you will be able to discuss your goals and concerns. Dr. Yee will consider many things before confirming your candidacy. The best patients for this cosmetic surgery are those who:

  • Are in good general health and free of any medical conditions that would make surgery under anesthesia unsafe.
  • Are at a stable weight. The results of your procedure can be affected by weight fluctuations.
  • Are non-smokers. Tobacco use seriously impedes the body’s ability to heal.
  • Have reasonable expectations. Arm lift surgery can provide you with toned arms, but will not prevent loose skin from developing as you age.
  • Have sufficient skin elasticity.

Once approved, you can schedule your arm lift surgery with Dr. Suzanne Yee in Little Rock.

The Arm Lift Procedure What You Can Expect

Patients who undergo arm lift surgery at our Little Rock practice can expect the procedure to last about one to two hours. The steps involved include:

Day of Procedure

Anesthesia

Before beginning your procedure, general anesthesia will be administered to keep you comfortable throughout your treatment. Nitrous oxide may also be used for optimal comfort.

Incisions

Once you are comfortable, Dr. Yee will make incisions on the undersides of your arms. The size and pattern of the incisions will depend on how much tissue you are having removed. Dr. Yee, who has years of experience, will strategically place the incisions to minimize post-operative scarring.

Tissue Removal and Liposuction

Dr. Yee will trim away your excess tissue and perform any necessary liposuction to eliminate fat deposits.

Reposition Tissue

The tissues under your skin are tightened and the remaining skin is draped over the tightened tissue. The skin is then smoothed to ensure a dimple-free appearance.

Sutures

The incisions are carefully closed with sutures. The area is then bandaged and a compression garment may be used to minimize swelling.
After surgery, some patients may require an overnight stay, while others are free to go home. Be sure to arrange for someone to drive you to and from your appointment and spend several days with you while you recover at home.

Recovering From Your Surgery

Manage Symptoms

Throughout your recovery period, you can expect some swelling, bruising, and discomfort. Be sure to take all pain medication and antibiotics as prescribed to prevent infection and reduce any pain you may be experiencing. You can use heating pads, cold packs, and over-the-counter medication to alleviate discomfort. Your bruising will subside over the course of a few weeks. Keeping your arms elevated will help reduce inflammation.

Rest and Relaxation

Following treatment, most patients have to take two to three weeks off of work, especially if their job is strenuous. Avoid any physical activity involving the arms for one week or more to prevent your incisions from stretching. Your body will need a general period of rest to heal from your surgery; however, light walking is encouraged, as it will help promote healing and prevent blood clots.

Follow-Up Appointments

After your initial arm lift surgery, you will have to attend follow-up visits with Dr. Yee at our Little Rock practice. These appointments will allow our plastic surgeon to remove your bandages and any drainage tubes that were used during your procedure, take out any stitches, and ensure your recovery is progressing as it should.

Minimize Scars

After your cosmetic surgery, you may be worried about scars underneath your arms. Though any type of surgery will produce scars, you can minimize their appearance by protecting them from the sun, using topical creams, and following Dr. Yee's post-care instructions.

After your surgery, Dr. Suzanne Yee will provide you with a more comprehensive list of post-operative guidelines, which should be followed closely to ensure a successful recovery. In addition to the above guidelines, these instructions will help you properly care for your incisions, bandages, and surgical drains.

The Results of Your Arm Lift

Following your cosmetic surgery, you will notice an immediate improvement in the shape and tone of your arms; however, it will take some time to see the final results. The appearance of your arms will continue to improve as the healing continues, with results becoming apparent about two to three months after your surgery. It may take up to a year to see your final results.

The more toned appearance of your arm lift will be long-lasting. The natural aging process will cause your arms to lose firmness and this may result in sagging, but most of your improvements should be relatively permanent. Maintaining a stable and healthy weight can help you maintain your results for years following your surgery.

Paying for Treatment In Little Rock, Arkansas

Brachioplasty is usually considered a cosmetic procedure, meaning your insurance won't contribute to the cost. The only exception may be patients whose upper arms limit their mobility or cause persistent skin conditions.

Fortunately, our Little Rock practice works with CareCredit®, a financing company that allows patients to pay for this plastic surgery in installments by offering low-interest or no-interest payment plans.

"Dr. Yee has performed several procedures for me and I have been pleased and happy with each one. She is a wonderful professional doctor and is a very sweet person. Her staff is always friendly and greet you with a smile. I always feel comfortable being there." Karen Schisler, 5-Star Reviews
