Laser Resurfacing

By Dr. Suzanne Yee on January 08, 2010

Hello! I just wanted to drop a line to inform you about Laser Resurfacing and it's benefits.  Remember  your younger days when your skin was soft and smooth....then came the sun damage, then came the free radicals.  Now, not so smooth.  This is where laser resurfacing comes in! Laser resurfacing is a procedure that gets rid of the damaged skin to help reveal new skin.  Laser resurfacing helps to reduce sundamage, wrinkles around the eyes and mouth, brown spots, facial scarring, and promotes overall skin tightening. The procedure itself is performed by passing a laser back and fourth over the desired areas.  The laser removes the damaged and scarred tissue and creates new skin cells.  The whole process usually takes an hour and is an outpatient procedure. Depending on weather you have traditional laser resurfacing or Fractional laser resurfacing will depend on the healing time.  The healing time is 5-10 days depending on how severe your sun damage is.  Laser resurfacing is like "starting over" with the skin on your face.  This means you need to be very aware about how to protect this new skin.    Post operative  appointments will be frequent at first and then periodic.  During the second week, you will notice your skin fading from red to pink and it will continue to do this over time.  You may also resume normal activity, but be sure to protect your skin from the sun so that you can continue the wonderful benefits from the laser resurfacing. Laser resurfacing is a great way to get a fresh start and feel refreshed.  I would love to discuss the wonderful procedure with you!  Call our office and schedule your consultation for new refreshing new skin.
