Dr. Yee uses rapid recovery techniques that can help some patients to return to work as soon as 24 hours after surgery.

Immediately Following your Surgery

You will need to make arrangements ahead of time to have a friend or family member accompany you home from our state-of-the-art surgery center following your procedure. You will be allowed to return home to rest and recover before returning the next day to ensure that healing is progressing free of complications. Dr. Yee will provide you with detailed post-operative instructions and compression garments that will aid in the healing process. You will continue to have follow-up visits for approximately 12 months following your surgery. Most patients will experience some mild bruising, swelling, and tenderness, and Dr. Yee can prescribe pain medication to help you control any discomfort.

Rapid Recovery Techniques

Dr. Yee employs the Rapid Recovery Method, an advanced technique to reduce the amount of time needed for healing. This makes the surgery less invasive than a traditional procedure and incorporates immediate physical therapy. In traditional surgeries, the pectoral muscle is divided to create adequate space for the placement of the breast implant. Dr. Yee uses less invasive techniques, including the KELLER FUNNEL™, that allow for the surgery to be performed using smaller incisions with less disturbance to the surrounding tissues.

Because there is so little post-operative pain, these gentle surgical techniques allow patients to begin physical therapy immediately following their procedure. Arm and chest exercises stimulate and promote healing, which significantly reduces the total recovery time. While some patients can even return to work after only a 24-hour period, it is still best to plan to rest for several days following your surgery.

It is important to avoid any strenuous activity for the first three to seven days following your procedure. Physical therapy exercises are designed to promote healing but not overly exert the body, since too much activity could result in post-surgical complications. Dr. Yee will also instruct you on appropriate massage techniques that will facilitate proper positioning of the implant and help prevent capsular contracture. As part of the healing process, a capsule of scar tissue will form around the implant. These massage techniques will prevent the scar tissue from causing damage to the implant.
