Customizing Breast Augmentation

Dr. Yee will take time to answer all your questions about your options in breast augmentation surgery so you can make informed decisions. She will review each of these choices in detail to help you understand their unique advantages.

Types of Breast Implants

Breast implants have the most significant effect on breast size, shape, and feel. Dr. Yee offers both saline and silicone breast implants in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. A saline implant consists of an empty silicone shell that is placed within the breast and then filled with salt water. When compared to augmentation using silicone gel-filled implants, saline offers patients the benefit of smaller incisions. In the event of rupture, the saline is harmlessly absorbed into the body.

A silicone implant consists of a shell pre-filled with silicone gel. Many patients believe they provide a more natural look and feel than saline implants. Dr. Yee will examine your breast size, listen to your goals, and help you select the type of implant that will provide your desired results.

Placement Techniques

The location of your implants - either above your pectoral muscle (subglandular) or below (submuscular) - will affect your results. Subglandular placement can produce a more voluptuous and dramatic result, and generally heals faster than submuscular placement. Submuscular placement, on the other hand, can create a more subtle and natural-looking result. Dr. Yee may recommend subglandular placement for patients who lead especially active lifestyles. In both cases, Dr. Yee utilizes a specialized technique called the Rapid Recovery Method to create minimal disturbance to the pectoral muscle during surgery.

Incision Techniques

Dr. Yee uses advanced incision techniques to minimize the appearance of scars following surgery. Incisions around the nipple or directly below the breast crease can result in easily concealed scars. When you choose to receive saline implants using a more discreet incision location — such as through the armpit — Dr. Yee will use the KELLER FUNNEL™. The KELLER FUNNEL™ is a specialized device requiring only very small incisions, resulting in minimal scarring. No matter what type of implant you select, you can rest assured that incisions and resulting scars will be as discreet as possible.
