Microneedling

Do you want to minimize the appearance of acne scars or signs of aging without surgical procedures? We have the solution.

Microneedling is a nonsurgical treatment that can address various skin concerns by stimulating the production of collagen.

Dr. Suzanne Yee offers radiofrequency-enhanced microneedling for faster, longer-lasting results for Little Rock, AR, patients.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling uses tiny, medical-grade needles to gently puncture the skin. As these pinpricks heal, your skin produces more collagen, helping reduce the appearance of various skin concerns like scarring and signs of aging on the face and body.

Radio Frequency Microneedling  FAQ

Our office uses fractional laser technology to enhance the results of microneedling. RF microneedling differs from traditional microneedling, bringing up the following questions from patients:

How does fractional RF microneedling work?

Similar to traditional microneedling, pinpricks are made in the skin with ultrafine needles; however, once the needles have penetrated the skin, fractional lasers deliver radiofrequency energy to gently heat the deep layers of the skin, stimulating collagen and elastin production and amplifying the results of microneedling.

How many needles do you use?

To treat smaller areas, such as the face, Dr. Yee or her staff will use a 25-pin tip. For larger areas, such as the body, Dr. Yee will use a 64-pin tip. Depending on your skin concerns, these needles will puncture the skin 0.5mm to 3.5mm deep.

How many treatments are required?

One benefit of fractional RF microneedling is that patients can experience results in as few as three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. More sessions are required for traditional microneedling, but the radiofrequency energy streamlines the process.

Pre-Treatment Care

Dr. Yee will inform you of a few pre-treatment steps that you should follow to ensure a healthy treatment, but here are a few tips to keep in mind:

Avoid Harsh Skin Treatments

Avoid harsh treatments that can increase your skin's sensitivity, such as retinoids, exfoliants, and topical antibiotics about a week before treatment.

Avoid Anti-Inflammatory Medication

Avoid non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication like ibuprofen, MOTRIN®, and Advil® for at least three days before your session, as these medications can lead to bruising following your procedure.

Wear Sunscreen

Inflamed skin isn't suitable for a microneedling session. Wear sunscreen daily and avoid exposure to the sun for the week leading up to your appointment.

Avoid Shaving

To avoid skin irritation, do not shave the day of your procedure; however, be sure to shave any thick patches of hair in the treatment area the day before your procedure.

Prepare for Cold Sores

If you are prone to cold sores, microneedling may trigger them. Prepare for cold sores by taking an antiviral medication two days before the treatment and the day of your treatment.

Avoid Blood Thinners

If you are on blood thinning medication and it's possible to stop taking them a week before your treatment without harming your health, we recommend doing so to help reduce bruising.

Step-by-Step Process of Microneedling

The entire microneedling appointment will take less than an hour, from walking into our office to walking out to your car.
The entire microneedling appointment will take less than an hour, from walking into our office to walking out to your car.

Clean Your Skin

Depending on where you're receiving treatment, cleanse your face or body with a gentle cleanser. Show up to our Little Rock office on the day of your appointment without any makeup, lotion, or other serums on the treatment site.

Numbing Your Skin

A topical anesthetic will be applied to the treatment area to numb the skin. This cream will make the treatment virtually painless.

RF Microneedling Procedure

The microneedling process takes about 20 minutes for a moderately sized treatment area, such as the face. Our professional will choose a handpiece, customize the depth of the needles, and work across the skin, pricking the surface with the needles as radiofrequency energy is delivered deep into the skin.

Soothing Any Irritation

A cream or serum may be applied following the procedure to calm any skin irritation.

FAQ About Recovery and Aftercare

Is there any downtime?

Minimal to no downtime is needed with microneedling, allowing you to return to your daily activities right after treatment.

Are there any side effects?

Due to the nature of this procedure, you may experience some redness, bruising, minor bleeding, and swelling in the treatment area for a few days after treatment.

Are there any products I should avoid after treatment?

Avoid harsh skin care products, sun exposure, germs (as found on dirty makeup brushes), and strenuous exercise for 72 hours after your procedure. Additionally, avoid using makeup to cover up redness and other side effects for one to two days following your treatment.

Are there any products I should use after treatment?

Be sure to use a gentle cleanser to avoid irritating your skin, and wear sunscreen to protect your skin since it will be particularly sensitive after your treatment.
