Get Slimmer, Smoother Arms with Liposuction

By Dr. Suzanne Yee on August 13, 2019

Excess fat under the armWhen a person diets and exercises, the body responds by shedding excess fat. However, people don’t get to choose where excess fat is lost. Many people find that, even after they have achieved their ideal weight, they are left with stubborn fat deposits. In these situations, cosmetic treatment may be the best solution.

Liposuction eliminates unwanted fat deposits from specific areas of the body. At Dr. Suzanne Yee’s Little Rock, AR, practice, patients can undergo arm liposuction if they want to have slimmer upper arms. The advanced liposuction techniques used by Dr. Yee allow patients to achieve their aesthetic goals with minimal discomfort and little risk of complications.

Candidates

Liposuction effectively removes fat deposits from the body to tighten and tone the treatment site. However, it is important for patients to understand that liposuction is not a weight loss solution, nor does it eliminate loose skin. Instead, liposuction treatment is meant to target specific pockets of fat that have been resistant to diet and exercise.

Arm liposuction is ideal for individuals with:

  • A steady weight and healthy lifestyle
  • Good skin elasticity
  • Unwanted fat along the upper arms
  • Realistic expectations for treatment results

The Procedure

Liposuction is an outpatient procedure that is performed using either local or general anesthesia. To start the procedure, Dr. Yee will make a small incision near the treatment site. A thin, hollow tube, called a cannula, is inserted into this incision where it is used to suction out fat deposits. When traditional liposuction is performed, the surgeon uses a back and forth motion with the cannula to breakdown fat deposits for removal.

At our Little Rock practice, Dr. Yee performs ultrasonic liposuction using the LipoSelection system by VASER®. This technique utilizes ultrasonic energy to gently break up and emulsify fat so that it can be removed from the body without causing significant damage to surrounding nerves, blood vessels, or connecting tissues. This system is gentler than traditional liposuction and is particularly effective on smaller treatment areas, like the arms.

After the appropriate amount of fat has been removed, Dr. Yee will close incisions and recovery will begin.

Benefits of the LipoSelection Technique

Liposuction for the arms benefits our Little Rock patients by getting rid of fat that has been resistant to diet and exercise efforts. It allows patients to feel more confident in short sleeves, tank tops, and swim suits.

The LipoSelection system used by Dr. Yee offers a number of additional benefits that are unique to this technique:

  • Ultrasonic liposuction results in less bleeding and fewer bruises
  • Recovery time for ultrasonic liposuction is shorter than that of traditional liposuction
  • Ultrasonic liposuction preserves surrounding tissues, which should result in smoother skin after treatment
  • The LiopSelection system allows for greater control and precision
