DR. SUZANNE YEE: Patients come in wanting to have something done to their nose and when they come in, they think about well I just want my nose to look good and many patients just want their nose to be smaller. But when we talk to the patient, we want to make sure they’re realistic about their goals, that it fits their face, that if you’re a 6 foot tall person, you wouldn’t want a tiny, weeny nose on your face. Also we talk about the functional problems and we want to make sure, even though they’re getting a rhinoplasty or their nose reduced or changed, that they are able to breathe after surgery and it’s functional. Because as the years go on, you worry about, well can I breathe, and just because it looks good, doesn’t mean that you’re going to be happy with it because you want to be able to breathe through your nose and if functions well. FEMALE VOICE: Now that I’ve had my procedure, I’m able to breathe and I’m very happy with what I got. DR. SUZANNE YEE: I had a young man who had a large lump on his nose and he would wear his hair very, very long. He hid his face all the time and he was very reclusive. He came into see me and we removed the hump on his nose and it changed his whole personality. It increased his self-confidence. His self-esteem just skyrocketed and it improved his quality of life. And I was so happy for him, it just made me feel so good for him.
