DR. SUZANNE YEE: Well many patients come in thinking that they look tired. Their eyes are tired, they have puffiness under the eyes, and then also, they complain of their eyelids weighing their eyelashes down. And then also women complain of not being able to wear their makeup. So there are reasons, cosmetically to improve your upper eyelids and lower eyelids, and that’s called blepharoplasty surgery, but there are also functional reasons be if the eyelids, upper eyelids are too heavy, they’ll block your vision. And many times, your insurance companies will pay for this because it is blocking your vision, because it is a problem. Patients will see in and have blepharoplasty so that they can remove the upper eyelids skin, the excess skin, as well as the fat pockets above the eyelids, causing to the lids to be hard and heavy, also, for the lower lids, the lower blepharoplasty, for mainly puffiness of the lower lids. It’s not really to remove a lot of extra skin, but patients will have a tired lid because they’re puffy and they have dark circles and so we can make an incision behind the eyelids, so that you will not have an incision on the outside of the lid and remove the fat pockets. If the patient has little bit extra skin, sometimes we can remove that little extra skin and tighten the lower lid skin. FEMALE VOICE: It was absolutely no pain. My biggest fear after the surgery was having the stitches taken out and it was wonderful. You come back and you go to a back room, so you don’t have to go through the waiting area. The stitches came out. The staff member that took them out explained step by step, this is what I’m doing on. I knew she was clipping. I knew she was pulling this out, so that helped with my anxiety level. I knew what she was doing step be step, there was no pain. I am so happy. You may look at me and tell me, oh you look fresh, are you using a new makeup, is that a new hairdo. You can’t look at me and tell what that Dr. Yee actually did a surgery. The scars, there are no scars. I’ve even had a friend look at it and say, look at the scars, she said there aren’t any; she put them in the perfect place you know. I love it. I feel a lot better. I was getting older and I had bags and I wanted to look fresh and that’s what she did for me. DR. SUZANNE YEE: After eyelid surgery, patients feel more awake; their eyes don’t feel like as heavy or tired. They feel refreshed. And they can put their makeup on and they feel like you can see their makeup now. They’re so happy afterwards. It’s a simple procedure, mainly because you know in a week, most of the patients have their sutures out and they can go back about their business and they can put their makeup on and there’s not much downtime.
